Riley is born and raised in Nanaimo, where he played his Minor hockey for the Nanaimo Clippers.
After Minor hockey Riley made the jump up to the North Island Silvertips where he played two years, and then made the transition to Junior B playing for the Nanaimo Buccaneers in their inaugural season.
After two impressive seasons with the Buccaneers, Riley was signed by the Yorkton Terriers, of the SJHL. In 2014, Riley played a large role in bringing the RBC championship back to Yorkton.
Riley has always taken training, preparation and skill development very seriously, which makes him a great fit as a Prime’ coach. Furthermore, Riley has been the goalie coach for the Buccaneers for two seasons, and in the short stint he has moved 3 goalies on to Junior A opportunities.
Riley believes that by taking care of the things athletes can control in the game, such as fitness, preparation, and attitude, this will then improve their on ice performance.
